Barbara Hutcherson-Parks began her role as a life-long educator in Lynchburg City Public Schools, first as a classrom teacher and then in various leadership roles. With a career that spanned over five decades, she touched the lives of thousands of students, teachers, parents, and colleagues.
A native of Amherst County, Virginia, Mrs. Hutcherson-Parks worked tirelessly for all students. Known for her expertise in early childhood education and parental engagement strategies, she was especially passionate about creating opportunities to jumpstart the academic success of pre-school students, most notably in the area of reading.
Mrs. Hutcherson-Parks loved reading and encouraged her preschoolers to read by ensuring that they had ample resources for their classroom and promoting reading as a family activity. Barb's Books was established to continue her work.
